Looking for Eyelash Extension Models? – how to pick the right one for your Eyelash Extension Course

Selecting a Model especially for your first Eyelash course, is more important than you think. Choosing the right lash model can make or break  those first lash applications. It can even impact your confidence.
Here at the Eyelash Extensions College we have put together a few tips to help you decide on your Lash Model.

Whether you are wanting to train in our Beginner Eyelash Extensions Course, or are ready to skill up in Volume lashes, or styling. These few tips will help you  pick the right lash Models for your Eyelash Extensions training:

1. Pick someone who has great, lashes!

I know! your first thought may be: ‘Why would someone with great lashes need extensions?’ Well, here’s the thing…When you’re learning the craft of eyelash extensions, be it as a beginner or the more advanced techniques like Volume lashes, Russian Volume or Lash Styling, applying those ultra thin lash extensions, to someone’s lashes, putting those sharp tweezers near the eye while trying to separate and attach an eyelash extension…You do not want to start with challenging lashes. Make it easy for yourself and pick someone who has long lashes or a lot of lashes.

2. Pick someone who has dark lashes

While we will learn about lashing clients who have very light lashes, again you want your practice lashes to be as visible as possible, when you apply those first extensions or those tricky volume fans.

3. Choose someone who hasn’t got any lash extensions on already

It is not only wise but more fun to start with a clean canvas and put your own mark on someone’s lashes. And also because of health and safety reasons, we will have to remove them first anyway, and loose precious practice time. So make it clear to your models: ‘No existing lash extensions!

4. Ask your Model to have makeup free eyes for the course

This saves us time having to remove it during your practice time. More importantly clean makeup free eyes are much easier to lash on then those that still have protein residue from makeup, and thus are slippery and don’t hold the lash extension. For your client, clean lashes to start with means better retention

5. Pick someone who is comfortable lying down for a couple of hours

and won’t mind us playing with their lashes. A nervous Nelly who moves a lot, wriggles, and or talks, will make it very difficult for you to apply lash extensions to their eyes, and unknowingly create a safety hazard.

And the most important tip!

Your Model cannot be pregnant. Due to Health and safety we cannot apply lashes to a pregnant lady. You will learn more about this in your course, but the main reason why we cannot lash a pregnant Model is because of a higher risk of an allergy. So check with your Models before you book them in for your course.

Eyelash Extensions in Melbourne – Finding the right course for you

Finding the right Eyelash Extensions Course in Melbourne

Ok! So you are ready to take that step and learn Eyelash Extensions! Now to find yourself a course…if you are in Melbourne you will no doubt have perhaps already realized that there is an abundance of courses and institutions that offer them. You wouldn’t be the first one to get overwhelmed and paralyzed with choice.

Whether you’re in Melbourne looking for Eyelash Extension Courses or anywhere in Australia, we have compiled some important factors to consider, while choosing the right Eyelash Extensions course for you.

First consider what is offered as part of the course.

Do you get to practice on live models? and how many models? Some Eyelash Extensions Courses require you to lash one Model during the class and then may ask you to complete one more in your own time. We have put ourselves in our students shoes and remember that when you first start to lash doing only one supervised model is often not enough to gain enough to learn the skill and be able to then lash confidently on your own. We like our students to practice on two models in class, and then have them do two more models on their own. Once they learn the skill of lashing and understand the importance of quality vs quantity, they are ready to lash on their own.

Is the teacher still a Lash Stylist?

It may not seem relevant, but when it comes to something as intricate as lashing where you play with sharp tweezers near peoples eyes, the old saying: “Those who can’t teach…” really isn’t safe way to learn. You want someone with actual experience in applying those tiny eyelash extensions, not to mention the knowledge. So what if the teacher is a retired Lash Stylist? Surely their experience counts for something? Consider this: If your teacher is not currently lashing, how can she be up to date with the latest techniques and tools? Only someone who still practices this skill on their clients will be up to date, and be therefore able to teach you the latest techniques. Otherwise you will have a big learning curve. We are still running our own Lash businesses and are up to date with the latest methods, and products. Our teachers will teach you not just what you need but also share with you their secrets that they’ve picked up along them way, so that you can be ahead of your competitors.

What lashes do they use?

The lashes that we supposed to work with when we lash Classic 1:1 are 0.15. Yet we still see so many students being taught on the old outdated, thick lashes 0.20 Often Eyelash Extension training providers find it easier to teach students on those thick lashes, because it’s easier and quicker to pick up. However those lashes aren’t safe for our clients and should not be used anymore. Ask your training provider what lashes they use, and if they say 0.20 or that you first have to learn on them, and then you can take a refresher and learn the thinner ones…RUN! There’s no point wasting your time and money to learn how to use lashes that are not in practice any more. Just learn on the right ones straight away and you won’t fall behind your competition. Besides Clients are smart and they can tell the difference between the fat ones and the light, feathery ones.

Will you get ongoing support?

How does that look like? Via email? Is it limited to one email? a skype call maybe? or a phone call? Or perhaps they don’t offer any support after you finish your course? When we say we offer ongoing support we mean it! We have a group for all our students where we pop in videos, do monthly live rounds, so students can ask questions. It doesn’t matter whether you have finished your course a week, a month or a year ago, when we say ongoing support we mean it.

How far will you travel?

A good course is worth traveling to. That’s what one of our students said who came to us all the way from Mildura. And we’ve had definitely some travelers, whether it was from across the city or regional Victoria. So if you find a course, that you think is perfect for you, but it’s not close to you, still consider it. A good course is worth traveling for.

Should you do an Eyelash Extensions Course? or just ‘work it out’?

Why should you take a course when you could watch a few youtube videos and ‘work it out’?

Why pay for a course when you could spend some time researching the lash thing?

Now a day there is so much information out there on the net. Anything can be practically googled, researched and figured out. In most cases that is true, but when we’re talking about something as intricate as lashing…coming very, very close to people’s eyes, with sharp tweezers, and glue that bonds in a matter of seconds, would you really want to ‘figure out’ how to do it right? A lot is at stake here, as potentially you could really injure your client, get sued, just basically end up in a lot of trouble. Will it be worth it in the end? So best case scenario unknowingly you will overload the lash line, and your client will end up with damaged lashes or Alopecia. Worst case scenario you glue their eyes shut, or accidentally get glue in their eye, or cause any injury to the eye that will require medical attention, and thus get possibly sued.

Training with a professional, experienced lash instructor allows you to absorb not just their knowledge and experience, but also gain the skills necessary. Your lash Instructor will teach you techniques, anchor points, knowledge on safe lashing…and the really, really good teachers will even share their own secrets of the trade to build you up and help you be the best lash stylist possible. If you get them one-on-one then that’s the biggest bonus! Undivided attention, and focus on you, to really perfect those intricate skills.

Yes of course you can bypass

all this, feeling super confident and just ‘risk it’, but here is the thing; Whenever you want to learn something new, You alwasy have to invest one or the other…Either your time, or your money. Just think about this for a moment…how much time do you actually have to invest in researching the art of lashing safely? time is something you will never get back! Once you spend weeks, months looking at videos, going back and forth watching, reading information from all different sources and leaders in the industry, lots and lots of dangerous trial and errors, then spend another X-amount of time researching the products you need…argh! You will have wasted a good amount of time, that you could’ve been already lashing as a pro, and earning money…and the scariest thing is that You will NEVER GET IT BACK! Money on the other hand is accessible. You can always make more money! And the sooner you start lashing as a pro the sooner you will get paid, and the longer you will stay in the game.

The reason there are training programs and schools out there, the reason we offer courses is to save you A LOT OF TIME, curb the learning curve, give you inside expertise knowledge and skills. Our courses for example don’t just teach you on the latest techniques in eyelash extensions, but we also share our experinece in this industry, gained and perfected over many, many years. We have reasearched the best products and can present it all to you at once. Equip you so that when you leave our training you are ready to lash and make money.

Don’t lash like this just because you ‘sort of worked it out’!
